Green Coffee Beans
Green Coffee Beans
Green Coffee Beans? Has the world gone mad? I’ve heard of green tea, and actually drink quite a lot of it (very good for you apparently) but green coffee? Everybody knows that coffee beans are brown, whoever heard of green coffee – yuk!
Alright, alright, keep your hair on. Green coffee beans are what the real coffee lovers use, to make the freshest, tastiest, healthiest coffee possible. You see, when you buy your green coffee beans they are “au naturelle” – unroasted, you do that bit for yourself. Sound like a bit of hard work? Well it isn’t really, and it’s all the rage. They do say that once you’ve roasted your own green coffee beans, you’ll never go back to pre-roasted again (unless you run out of course).
You know how when canned food was first available it was thought of as “classy” and everybody ate it – mmm – food in a can, how convenient and tasty, until many people realised that it may be convenient, but tasty, that’s debatable, and healthy? There’s been a real surge in people going back to using their own fresh ingredients (even growing their own) and making their own food from scratch hasn’t there – it tastes better and it’s better for you – well, that’s where green coffee beans come in. If you want to taste the finest and freshest coffee possible, then you need to get yourself some green coffee beans and get roasting.
Roasting Green Coffee Beans at Home
What you need:
- Green coffee beans – you do need to buy good quality green coffee beans, and just as we all have our own preferred brands of pre-ground coffee or roasted beans, so you’ll soon discover which flavor you actually like the best. Try a few and choose a favorite.
- Coffee bean roasting machine – there are plenty of these to choose from these days, in fact, you will probably find that you can buy one from the same place as you buy your green coffee beans. Follow the instructions carefully so that they don’t get burned. You’ll probably have to leave your freshly roasted green coffee beans for around 24 – 48 hours before you use them (read the instructions BEFORE you start).
- Coffee grinder – you’ve probably got one of these already (and if not, why not!).
- Coffee machine – at last, you’re ready to pop your ground beans into the coffee machine and the waiting is almost over – the aroma of freshly brewing coffee beans, the anticipation of tasting your very first cup of home-made coffee. It’s enough to make your mouth water.
Advantages of Green Coffee Beans
Using green coffee beans does have a few advantages:
- Green coffee beans actually stay fresher for longer, so you can buy them in large quantities (once you find your favorite) and they will keep for months. A word of warning though, they won’t keep for long after they have been roasted, so only roast enough green coffee beans for a day or so at a time for maximum enjoyment.
- Green coffee beans really do have a much fresher, finer taste. If you’re a real coffee connoisseur, then you won’t be able to make a finer cup of coffee anywhere.
Green Coffee Beans are becoming extremely popular, and are available in a growing number of places. Specialty coffee shops will be able to supply you with green coffee beans, as well as many online stores and even some supermarkets are getting in on the act.
